YOUR
REAL VOICE - the vocal ezine for real people

The Green Lady Exercise
Think "The Wizard of Oz" for this one. Remember the Wicked Witch
with the green face? Thanks to actress Margaret
Hamilton for giving a great example to singers everywhere.
Imagine the sound of her saying "I'll get you my pretty" in the
fabulously obnoxious voice of hers! Now imitate that sound as
closely as you can. Don't strain to do it. Just have fun
imitating the Witch. Notice where you feel your voice resonate
when doing the Wicked Witch? Now, using the same kind of aim, but
less obnoxious a sound, sing something easy into the same spot to
resonate it and notice if it's slightly vocally easier to make more
sound and takes less physical effort to do. Since I mention a lot
that singing "forward" in the face and mouth is a good thing, pick a
song that you know well and practice singing it as the Wicked
Witch. Then sing it in your regular vocal sound. Does it
feel better and easier now? It should.
