What Do You Think About Your World-Class Voice?

What's keeping you from being a world-class singer?  Tough question, and it actually has a lot to do with today's feature article, but with a slightly different twist.

You may remember that during the recent Trojan Horse Lemonade sale, I included a few bonus items (the pdf books) that had made a big difference in my life.  Each of those books was about thinking, and specifically, how our thinking effects our results in any area of life.  Why I included them is that I have found in  just about ALL of my students (voice, guitar and piano) their thinking about their own talent and abilities is what determines how well they performed and achieved musically.  My instruction actually has very little to do with the student's achievement.   I get them going technically and steer them in a forward direction, but the student's opinion of their abilities is the most important factor in how they practice, how free they are to use their abilities and how hard they are willing to work to improve.

So what is in your thinking about your own voice?  What are the opinions you have about your own ability?  Can you imagine yourself as a world-class singer?  What are the thoughts you have about your own voice, and most importantly, which are the ones you would like to change and improve.  How you think about your voice has a lot more to do with your sound than how good your training and technique is.
