What Are the Risks?

We spend lots of time here at The Daily Tip on relaxing, breathing and not pushing the voice.  Why?  Well, other than it just works the best that way, there are actually significant dangers to the voice from not relaxing and using enough air.  Pushing, and trying to sing too much when the voice actually could use some rest are vocally dangerous and can cause every singers’ nightmare:  nodes.  So what are nodes?  They are small blisters or polyps that form on the delicate vocal folds from repeated misuse of the voice.   Think of a nodule as a callus that you get from slamming your vocal folds together too many times.  Nodes are really dangerous to the voice!  You don’t want to get them, and they are pretty arduous to recover from.  If something feels uncomfortable vocally, don’t do it!  Don’t push, don’t try to sing without using enough air, and overall, be nice to your voice.
If you are nice to your voice, it will be nice back to you and the people that hear you.
