How to Mix It Up

This is a really simple and rudimentary technique for beginning to learn to mix the high and low areas of the voice in the middle. Add in what’s missing in the voice by aiming in the opposite direction!  Although it takes much more study and practice than this to fully mix for a great middle voice, this is a great starter technique.  Do all of this somewhere in the comfortable range of the voice.  Start in a low note that resonates in your chest.  Sing the low note and gradually add more head resonance by aiming the sound at your nose or right between your eyes while.  This may take quite a few repetitions, so sing it lightly at first until you have it coordinated.  Try the same mix with a higher note.  Sing the high note lightly and aim the sound down onto the breastbone at the front of the chest.  Remember to stay as relaxed as possible while you are singing these mixed notes!
