A Great Way to Memorize

This is a text memorization technique that I have put to the test.  It gets my seal of approval and is the fastest text memorization technique I have ever used.  Get a copy of the song lyrics.  Count to the fifth or sixth word in the first line, and draw a line through the middle of the word, between two syllables if you can.  This will give you a sentence fragment that doesn’t mean anything, but that’s the point!   Speak the text out loud in monotone, with no word inflection, so that it sounds almost like babble.  Repeat this speaking process out loud until the line fragment is memorized.  Then move to the next fragment and do the same process.  Then join the two fragments together.  Go through the entire song and memorizing in fragments and then joining them to the fragments around them.  Keep putting memorized fragments together until you can speak quickly and repeatedly through the whole song with no break in the words and getting all of it correct.  I recently used this process to completely memorize an entire 32-line song in twenty minutes!

For a great technique to learn the total song and how to sing it fast, take my “Seven Secrets to Mastering a New Song" course, available from Sing In Tune.
