Develop the Whole Voice

I’ve been receiving a lot of questions about high notes lately, but there’s a really important thing to consider in singing great high notes.  That is.... the REST of your voice, particularly your low voice and learning to mix to blend the middle voice.  Think of it like a house.  In order to have a house be stable, it requires a strong foundation under it, built below the ground surface.  You want your low voice to be supple and flexible so that the foundation of your voice is intact.  Once you develop lightness and flexibility in the low voice, you can work on the mix up through the middle.  The middle is actually more important than the high notes because the middle is the part of the voice you use the most.  Once you’ve developed the low and the middle, the high notes get good relatively easily.  Trust me on this one!  Great high notes show up when you tend to the whole voice, and it’s worth any work you have to do to get it.  A great whole voice is really what you’re after anyway.
