Weebles Wobble, but Singers Shouldn’t

So what’s a wobble?  This tip picks up where we left off with our discussion of vibrato.  A wobble is a slow and wide shaking sound or unintended alteration of the pitch while singing.  Usually it is attributed to “aging” of the voice, but this is really not the case.  A wobble is caused by either a lack of air support or misuse of the voice, and it can be corrected with proper training.  I am proud to say I used to have a wobble in my voice and was able to overcome it with the proper training!  (Thank you Dr. Baker and Dr. Rundus!)  Mine was caused by an air support issue, and once I was able to learn a better breathing technique, the wobble was gone.  The most interesting thing about my old wobble was that I never heard it.  Other people heard it in my voice and pointed it out to me.   Since it was something in my voice that needed to be fixed, I was glad for the criticism!   Vibrato is a faster sound than a wobble, and a true relaxed vibrato is a sign of a healthy voice.  A wobble is not a healthy thing in the voice.
