Why Are
Some Songs Just Harder to Sing Than Others?
You may have guessed “high notes,” but
that’s actually not the case. The most common reason that a
song is difficult for a particular singer is that many of the notes of
the song are in the weakest area of the voice, commonly called “the
break.” Think of your vocal range divided into three segments:
low, middle and high. Generally, a song is difficult to sing when
it spends too much time in the intersections between these areas.
So it’s not the “high” notes that are the problem. It’s the
passageway between the different areas of the voice that’s the problem
for most singers. This passageway, “the break” is one of the
trickiest areas of the voice to smoothly navigate and requires a good
bit of study to master, but it can be done. If you haven’t yet
mastered singing through the break, moving the song slightly lower, or
sometimes even higher, can get the notes out of the break and allow you
and the voice to relax. |
