Sing Wet

No, I don’t mean in the shower!  “Sing wet” is something voice teachers have been telling students for a long time, and it refers to how much water you drink.  I know we are nagged to death about the amount of water we drink daily, but it really makes a difference to your singing voice to be hydrated enough.  I’ve heard recommendations from anywhere between two quarts to one ounce per pound of body weight daily.  Since most Americans are chronically dehydrated, many people may not know what it feels like to be properly hydrated.  Here is what most people DO notice:  when you get a cold or contract any other kind of infectious critters, usually the first place symptoms are felt is the throat.  This has many different reasons, but it is also an indication of how delicate and fragile this area of the body is.  Take care of it best by drinking lots of water!  Generally, the more hydrated you are, the healthier you are, and all of that makes for better singing.
