Brought to You by the Letters P, T, B, D and K

More of the wisdom of Sesame Street!  The consonant sounds of P, T, B, D and K do wonders for the voice, that is, when you actually get them IN the voice.  These are the letters and sounds that American-born English speakers and singers most frequently "swallow" in the voice.  Unfortunately, Americans are lazy English speakers! (One of my British voice students is a master of consonant sounds in her singing and speaking!)  We often don't put the sounds of P, T, B, D and K fully into our words when we speak, and this spills over into our singing.  The vocal benefits of putting more P, T, B, D and K into your singing sound is that it automatically improves just about everything about your singing voice instantly.  It is also easier for the listener to understand the lyrics you are singing when you enunciate these consonants.  Pick a song you like to sing and write out the words to it.  Circle every "t" in any word in the song, then sing it and really focus on putting every "t" into the pronunciation every time it is one of the words.  The more you practice this, the easier it will be to get your voice heard while you sing the song.
