Sing Like
YOU Because No One Else Can!
I recently read a quote from a terrific and very famous soprano that
really delighted me. To paraphrase her: no matter how much
your like someone else’s voice, or what they do while singing, you
still have to sing like YOU. You’re the only one who can, and you
have no idea whether or not you are actually better than the singer you
are trying to imitate! Let the audience have a shot a hearing who
you really are, by singing as the person you really are with the voice
you have right now, exactly as it is with no effort to make it like the
voice of another singer.
Here’s another quote from the great dancer Martha Graham that really
brings it home:
“There is a vitality, a life force, an energy, a quickening, that is
translated through you into action, and because there is only one of
you in all time, this expression is unique. And if you block it,
it will never exist through any other medium, and it will be lost.”
The world really needs your voice, and your gift, exactly as it is
NOW. You are the only one that has your gift to give!
