Plant Yourself

.....just like a tree.  To really sing freely, you need a good foundation under your voice.  Your body is designed perfectly for that.  You have bones, those terrific resonating hard surfaces, traveling all throughout your body.  The best part is, many of those bones line up and travel down from your larynx straight into the floor.  So let’s use them!  Stand with your legs shoulder-width apart and your knees relaxed and slightly bent.  Feel your body  weight on the muscles of the front of your thighs.  Sing something that you really “get into” and send your voice down onto the breastbone (the front of your upper chest).  Once you feel that bone begin to vibrate slightly, continue to aim the sound down and send it throughout your entire body, along all the bones.  Once you get the hang of using your bones and whole body structure to resonate the voice, send the sound right down your body into the floor.  Imagine that you are sending your sound down into the earth under your feet.  Do you notice how much stronger you feel singing this way?  GOOD!  Keep doing it, from now to the rest of your life!
