Sing into a Corner

To follow yesterday’s topic, another way to get an idea of how you sound is to sing into a corner.  This is not near as good as taping yourself, but in a pinch when there is no recording device available, this is a quick and easy method to check yourself.  Find a corner in the room that is completely open so that you can stand in it.  Face directly into the corner and step as close to the two walls as your shoulders will allow.  Put your shoulders against each wall and sing directly into the ninety-degree angle.  What you will hear is the resonance from your voice directed off each wall back into each of your ears.  Although it’s not an exact replication of the sound of your voice, it gives you a great idea of how well you are resonating, which makes it much easier to sing.
