Look at Babies

Although they may not sing a whole lot, babies have incredibly relaxed faces. Look at an infant’s  mouth and jaw (either a real baby or a photograph).  Their mouths often hang open, and their lips are completely relaxed.  Even when they are smiling or trying to make sound, they keep their jaw and lips very relaxed.  Babies don’t spend much time with their mouths shut, so they remain in the relaxed position most of the time.  The more you can model a baby’s mouth and face relaxation while you sing, the better you will sound.  Imitate baby babble while watching yourself in a mirror and notice how much more relaxed your face is.  Now do the same relaxed positions while singing and you will instantly sound better.
